So your birthday is coming up and you want to have a party over the course of a three day weekend. On the other hand you really want to go four wheeling with your buddies on your time off. About five years ago Ricky Berry of Ricky B Photography was pondering these same thoughts when he decided to have his birthday party at Morris Mountain ORV which is located east of Birmingham and south of Anniston just off US431 in Alabama. As the years went by the invitation list got larger until last year when Ricky decided to invite the public. Ricky also held a race up Los Primos on Saturday with a $1000 bounty for the fastest time. Last year Blue Torch was the sponsor with Pirate 4×4 covering the event. This year Ricky opened the sponsorship up to several of the smaller known shops and Extreme Roc Rigs was honored to be apart of this years event.

We arrived just shortly after the race started but before the action heated up. Los Primos is your typical southern trail which includes several characteristics: ruts, mud, trees, huge rocks and going up a very steep incline. Southeastern 4-wheeling is a lot different than 4-wheeling on the west coast. On the east coast you will find two types of drivers and their favorite type of rig which are two polar opposites. On one hand you’ll find the low horsepowered lighter vehicle and on the other a high horsepowered heavy rock bouncing rig built for full throttle assaults on an obstacle. The race up Los Primos brought out the local favorites with their high horsepowered rigs who were all determined to out do Tim Cameron’s insane run last year.

Once the drivers got the first round of runs up Los Primos under their belts and got a feel for the terrain, flight school was in session. As the race continued you could tell the drivers were getting more and more comfortable with the trail and how their rock bouncer was reacting because it seemed as if the drivers were in training for the next space mission. Every rig including the one RZR was getting at least 3 wheels off the ground or completely launching several feet off the ground. These high horsepowered rock bouncing rigs are built to take abuse and last for decades. An example of a rig that has taken abuse for years is Darryl Jones’ Superman Samurai which was built by Bryan Cole of ColeworX while Bryan was working for Darryl at Custom Window Tinting and Off Road in Columbia, TN back in the late ’90s. This rig is still performing as good today as the day the last bolt was tightened.

This years winner, Wes Kean, had a winning time of 19.09 seconds. Busted Knuckle Films was there to catch all the action this year as can be seen in this video, Wes Kean Nails a tree and still makes a fast run on Primos! For a full write up and more pictures checkout Ricky Bs Pirate 4×4 RBD 2011 trail report or if you want to see the action in motion checkout Busted Knuckle Films’ videos on You Tube.

Extreme Roc Rigs has been talking to Bryan Cole of Coleworx over the past few months concerning the retail of Coleworx Rock Racing Factory small parts. Coleworx is known for its high horse powered, extremely tough, artistic rock buggies such as Superman, Highlighter, Fat Girl, Jenny Craig, Nasty Bucket, Cadillac XRC, and their latest the Riddler. Since Coleworx has been building these custom buggies several parts have been designed, developed, and tested that are now standard on these rigs. The Coleworx small part product line consists of rockrings, Dana 60 steering arms, and front and rear Coleworx Wilwood disc brakes.

Extreme Roc Rigs strives to find products that can be used on hardcore trails day after day and get you back home or to the trailer. We carry a full line of aftermarket accessories; however we chose to feature products in our online store that we use ourselves or stand behind. With this in mind we approached Bryan in November about making Coleworx small parts available to the general public. Coleworx is in the process of having an inventory built up to meet the demands of its rock buggy building and the new retail side. Extreme Roc Rigs is proud to be the official vendor of these products as well as Coleworx products that are soon to be released. Please visit Extreme Roc Rigs online store to find out more about the availability of the Coleworx line and our other featured products. If you have any questions about a Coleworx chassis please feel free to email Coleworx at coleworx@live.com.
